Metabolism

Metabolism

Metabolism, divided into catabolism and anabolism, refers to those chemical reactions occurring within an organism to sustain life, such as energy metabolism within mitochondria, catabolism and biosynthesis of components such as proteins and fatty acids. Metabolic dysfunction is behind a wide variety of diseases including cancer, obesity, heart disease and neurodegenerative disease. Many metabolic proteins play a key role in health and disease. For example, adiponectin, a protein hormone exclusively secreted from adipose tissue for the modulation of glucose and lipid metabolism, has also been found to prevent the thickening of damaged blood vessels and to suppress lipid deposition in blood vessel walls, which is the root of atherosclerosis.

AS ONE INTERNATIONAL provides various assay kits, antibodies, proteins, primary cells and culture medium for metabolism research.
